Rex Ian De Silva is a Sri Lankan Citizen Scientist active in Biological Field Research and Observational Astronomy. He is a Pioneer Sri Lankan Diver and Underwater Photographer, Martial Arts Master and Writer. He has researched, and is a recognized authority on, sharks, marine life, seabirds and shorebirds (waders). He has a special interest in meteorites and other minor bodies of the Solar System. To date he has published approximately 110 scientific research papers, book chapters and articles. He is a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS) and Member of the Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka (MIBiol).
He is now retired and lives with his wife at their home in Dampe (a village near the Bolgoda Lake) which is also base to "Seabird Watch (Sri Lanka)" and Astronomy Station "SXT 94". His daughter and her family live in Australia.
